These adorable Sweetheart Cookies are perfect for Valentine's Day week. Made with all-natural beetroot coloring for a lovely pink or red hue, they're great for kids to take to school, Galentine's Day parties, or just as a sweet treat at home.
Step 1: Preheat oven to 375°F.
Step 2: Cream butter and sugar together until totally incorporated and fluffy.
Step 3: Add egg and beat until smooth.
Step 4: Add flour and baking powder and mix until you have a smooth dough.
Step 5: Portion out 1/2 of the dough and set aside.
Step 6: Add a few drops of beetroot coloring to the half remaining in the mixing bowl and mix again until the desired shade is achieved.
Step 7: Using a teaspoon, take 1 tsp of each color, roll them to the same length, twist together, and pinch the base of the dough to form a circle.
Step 8: Place the formed dough on a parchment-lined sheet tray and gently press the center to shape a heart.
Step 9: Repeat with the rest of the dough.
Step 10: Bake for 10-12 minutes and allow to cool on a wire rack.
